Requiem by Fauré
POSTPONED UNTIL MAY 2021
Preparation is in full swing for Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, presented in Spring 2020. Composed between 1887 and 1890, this magnificent choral-orchestral setting of a shortened Catholic Mass for the Dead is focused on eternal rest and consolation in its scored seven movements. Fauré wrote of the work, “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion, I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.”
With such a masterful work chosen, Valley Choral Society is working hard to seek additional patron, sponsor, and grant support to present both May 2020 concerts with full orchestra. And if that was not enough, VCS will be extending invitations to other local choral and church organizations to share in the experience and gift of presenting such a beautiful piece of music. And if you still did not think that was enough, Valley Choral Society will be pairing this beautiful work with the creative and expressive Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen.
